This handsome devil is my dog Max, adopted from Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue three years ago this August. (I hope Roberta adds a pic of her beautiful doggie..)Max is my second golden after the late Patrick, who was a blond, not a redhead.
I think I'll stick with goldens although some of the following breeds sound pretty interesting...
Collie + Lhasa Apso = Collapso: A dog that folds up for easy transport
Spitz + Chow Chow = Spitz-Chow: A dog that throws up a lot
Pointer + Setter = Poinsetter: A traditional Christmas pet
Great Pyrenees + Dachshund = Pyradachs: A puzzling breed
Pekinese + Lhasa Apso = Peekasso: An abstract dog
Irish Water Spaniel + English Springer Spaniel = Irish Springer: A dog that's fresh and clean as a summer's day
Labrador Retriever + Curly Coated Retriever = Lab Coat Retriever: The choice of research scientists
Newfoundland + Basset Hound = Newfound Asset Hound: A dog for financial advisors
Terrier + Bulldog = Terribull: A dog that makes awful mistakes
Bloodhound + Labrador = Blabador: A dog that barks incessantly
Malamute + Pointer = Moot Point: Owned by...oh, well, it doesn't matter anyway
Collie + Malamute = Commute: A dog that travels to work
Deerhound + Terrier = Derriere: A dog that's true to the end
Collie + Malamute = Commute: A dog that travels to work
Deerhound + Terrier = Derriere: A dog that's true to the end
...have a great weekend!
Ha, ha! That's great. My border collie is fourteen and slowing way down. I've never lived without a dog in the house, so I'm paying attention to different breeds for that sad day when I lose her. Golden, hunh. Anyone else have a favorite breed?
ReplyDeleteRo,
ReplyDeleteI LOVE IT! Have you noticed that in real dog life, poodles are taking over the world. They are mixing every possible breed with a poodle, probably for the no-shed thing and smarts, but its like they are new dog Arian race.
BTW, I've got a cockapoo, part cockerspaniel, part poodle, which got the no-shed thing, but not the smarts.( the cocker sweetness instead.) My husband HATES telling anyone she's a cockapoo. I think its the name. A Canadian guy once told me they call them Spoodles in Canada. A vast improvement.
And Deb, I've ALWAYS wanted a border collie! But after my last dog, a wonderful, fabulous Samoyed, I opted for the no-shed advantage.
Yay Goldens (and isn't yours a beautiful boy)!
ReplyDeleteI have a house full of Pomeranians (rescues themselves, mostly) but my search-and-rescue partner, Puzzle, is a Golden. She is my first Golden and my first partner, and she is dear to my soul.

Also, off duty, a very silly girl.
Though it's in me to pretty much love any dog --and I've fostered some muttlets as strange as a beaglehuahua -- Poms are probably my small breed of choice, and I dooooo love the Goldens.
Yay also YGRR! :-)
Love the list! Does anyone know if there's a cat equivalent?
ReplyDeleteI love the list!
ReplyDeleteWe have two mutts. They are both Border Collie/Australian Shepard mixes we think. They certainly have the herding business going...
We belong to the local dog park and there are some very interesting breeds of dogs that show up. I have more than once wondered if people really have mutts and have made up these exotic sounding names, but I guess not.
Yes Jan, I have noticed the explosion of poodles and the poodle crosses. Those and the labs and lab crosses make up the bulk of the park membership. We have a lot of Goldens too. My goodness they have a lot of energy but they are sweet dogs every one of them.
By the way, Rosemary, that's a lovely new (to me, anyway) shot of you on the blog's banner. Lot of good energy there!
ReplyDeleteWe should try to come up with a similar list for cats...
ReplyDeleteSusannah, thanks for the kind words about the pic. Every time I looked at the old one I thought..why am I holding my neck like that?? I successfully managed to avoid all cameras for the past 20 years - didn't even have a photographer at my wedding - but needed something for the book.
Currently dogless, just wanted to say thanks for the very funny and creative list of cross-breeds.
