We had intended to post
a - hopefully- Nora Ephron-like piece today on why we felt bad about our hair, but our thoughts on Jungle Red run much deeper today.
Nora Ephron, filmmaker, director, producer, screenwriter, novelist, essayist and beloved sister of Hallie has passed away.
She was
glamorous, brilliant, and funny and her observations on everything from breasts
to her neck (which she felt bad about) made us laugh and made us feel good about
ours.
I didn't
realize it at the time but I wanted to be her when I saw Sandra Dee in the
movie Take Her, She's Mine, which Nora's parents wrote based on her letters from
college and we all wanted to have what Meg Ryan was having in When Harry Met
Sally. From Silkwood to Heartburn to Sleepless in Seattle Nora Ephron created characters
that will stay with us forever.
Rest in peace.
RIP, Nora. Thanks for making us laugh and for making us think.
ReplyDeleteDeepest condolences to the Ephron family.
The world is a little brighter for having had Nora in it. She made us smile, made us laugh, made us treasure the uniqueness that is in each of us. She will be missed.
ReplyDeleteOur thoughts and prayers are with Hallie and the Ephron family.
I'm so sorry for this terrible loss. My thoughts are with you Hallie.

ReplyDeleteHallie, my condolences to you and your family. I'll keep you in my prayers. Nora was a woman to be admired and enjoyed. She certainly brightened up more than one lonely evening for me via her unforgettable movies.
ReplyDeleteShe will be missed.
Hallie, your sister not only wrote with style, she lived with style, all the way. I keep thinking of one of the last shots of You've Got Mail, when the camera pans up to the blue blue sky...and I hope Nora is there, watching us, and laughing at all the silly little petty things we fuss about.
ReplyDeleteMy sincere condolences. The writing world has lost one of the greats.
ReplyDeleteHallie, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers in this difficult time.
ReplyDelete"You've Got Mail" is one of my fave rom-coms of all time. My condolences to Hallie and her family.
ReplyDeleteHer work was a blessing.
ReplyDeleteNora once famously said, "Above all, be the heroine of your life, not the victim." She not only created some of the greatest heroines, but she was one herself. She was the heroine we all dreamed of being. What a tremendous loss. My thoughts and prayers are with Nora's family.
ReplyDeleteDidn't know her, but I feel your loss. So sorry. I enjoy Hallie and love her books, so if her sister was anything like her, she was great!
ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure Nora Ephron gave us and we'll be able to visit it whenever we want. I wish she was still here to share more with us, but so thankful for what we have.
ReplyDeleteHallie Ephron and the rest of the family are in my thoughts and prayers.
Hallie, I'm so sorry about Nora. I agree with Lisa that her loss sucks. What a beautiful and courageous woman she was. I loved her smart heroines and enjoyed her humorous musings on everyday life. I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

ReplyDeleteI send sympathy to the Ephron family.
ReplyDeleteThe news of Ms. Ephron's death was a total shock to me, as I hadn't known she'd been ill. She was *such* a brilliant woman whose creativity just zoomed out of her in so many different forms, and all of them were funny as well as thought-provoking.
ReplyDeleteBut mostly Ms. Ephron was a family member; a sister, a wife, a mom. It's to you, Hallie, and your family that I express my sincerest condolences. May your sister's memory be a blessing.
Deepest condolences, Hallie, to you and all your family. I have wonderful memories of your sister's movies and other writing, including seeing "When Harry Met Sally" the night one of the first of my close friends got married. I went after the wedding with the other bridesmaids. It was a magical movie than and remains so. Nora was a luminous talent and obviously a wonderful person.
