DEBORAH CROMBIE: Our THRILLER FORTNIGHT here at Jungle Red is leading up to ThrillerFest, a four-day celebration of thriller books, the authors who write them, and the fans who read them. ThrillerFest takes place July 11, 12, 13 and 14, 2012, in New York City, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel located in Midtown Manhattan.
So what goes on at ThrillerFest? If you're an aspiring writer, there are master classes with best-selling authors, and opportunities to meet with dozens of literary agents. If you're a fan, there are panels and activities aplenty where you can hear and meet some of your favorite authors. (And buy their books!)
Among this years special guests are R.L. Stine, Ken Follet, Robert Crais, Diana Gabaldon, and John Lescroart. Just a small sampling of other attendees includes our recent JR guest Jon Land, Lee Child, Steve Berry, Jan Burke, Joseph Finder, Sophie Littlefield, DP Lyle, Andrew Gross, Wendy Corsi Staub, David Hewson, Hilary Davidson, and Yrsa Sigurdardottir--and that really is a small sampling! Check out the ThrillerFest website for a full listing of authors and panels.
Okay, I'm hooked. I wish I were going, but sadly, not this year. ThrillerFest is definitely on my list for next summer. What could be more fun than hanging out in NYC with a bunch of really cool writers and fans?
So, REDS and readers, who's going? Who's been? If you've attended, tell us about it.
And do check out the website. I especially like Lee Child's anecdote about meeting Libby Hellman when wearing only a small towel....
(And now, the lucky winners of Jon Land's STRONG VENGEANCE: Joan Emerson, Diane Hale, and Allison Brennan! If you three will email me at "deb at deborahcrombie dot com" with your mailing addresses, I will pass them along to Jon.)
Oh. I'll be there Friday..moderating a panel on "Sex and Politics! (Pretty perfect for THE OTHER WOMAN)!
ReplyDeleteAnd I must be done with my first draft of THE WRONG GIRL by then. Yikes!
Come say hello, okay? (And see how close I am to the end...)
Oh, Thrillerfest! I wanted to go, but couldn't make it this year. Next year, I hope. I hate to miss your panel, Hank! xoxo
ReplyDeleteSee you all at Bouchercon!
I will be there -- am nominated for a Thriller Award. It's my first time to attend since the very first Thrilerfest in Phoenix. I am on a panel Friday at 2 called Midlist to Magnificent: me, with a group of supersmart editors, agent, and publicist. It will be a nice break in the middle of my book tour.
ReplyDeleteOh, now I really wish I was going. Hank, and Jeff, and hate to miss seeing my buddy David Hewson. And I haven't been to NY in SO long... Big sigh.
ReplyDeleteThe first Thrillerfest in Phoenix was amazing ... I really hope that sometime, we can have a retreat there or something ...
ReplyDeleteI'll be there. I've only missed one, I love this conference. It has a great energy that is invigorating!
LOL Hank, I have copy edits due Tuesday and a novella due at the end of the month and a book due 10/1 ... I'll definitely be spending half my time working while I'm in NYC. I have a panel "Who's the Next Lara Croft" and my Villain's Journey workshop for Craftfest on Wednesday.
Wow, what a lineup! I wish I could be there, or is this only for writers? Anyway, Have a great time for those who are going. I'll be looking for your reports.
ReplyDeleteI went to the first Thrillerfest in Phoenix, too! It was at the great Frank Lloyd Wright designed Biltmore. Since then it's been in NY, and though the digs are much less spectacular, the proximity to publishers agents make it one of the most exciting conferences to go to. BIG names, and the publishers really support it. Lots of testosterone in the air.
ReplyDeleteI'll be there only on Friday.
ReplyDeleteWish I could be there! Fabulous group of writers and events! xo
ReplyDeleteI'll be there and can't wait. The line-up does look fabulous. I wish I were more skilled at ubiquity, to attend several panels at once. Look forward to meeting those of you who are there. I'll be the one talking about Le French Book all the time.
ReplyDeleteI'll be there... doing a brainstorming Buzz your Book session on Wed and then two panels on Friday - one about what to do with the rights you get back and one on historical characters in fiction. I've been to every Thrillerfest and love everything about them... but I've never seen Lee in a towel. I did see two people "doing it" at 4 AM in the pool at the first Thrillerfest in Phoenix and I've never told a soul who they were.
ReplyDeleteAh, M.J., you're a woman of discretion!
ReplyDeleteMJ! You win the prize for MOST TANTALIZING COMMENT EVER ON JUNGLE RED!
ReplyDeleteNow I just have to figure out what the prize is....
Sadly, no Thrillerfest for me this year, after having gone for the past two. I decided that I needed to spend the summer writing, writing and more writing, with no travel in between. I thought it was a good idea, but now that Thrillerfest is almost upon us, I wish I had made plans to go. Next year. I pinkie swear.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what I always say.
