Our hearts are in Las Vegas...
Today we had planned to talk about our favorite horror films, but the true horror of what unfolded last night in Las Vegas is just too awful and sadly real. So another time for that. For now, our hearts are in Las Vegas.
thank you for your sensitivity for changing the topic. It is so difficult to comment w/o speaking in cliches. We know there is a shortage of trained mental health workers. We know our system of health care is in desperate need of reform. We know that our democracy is cash/contribution driven. We know this. We speak out, we write words. We pray. and the wheel of suffering turns, the pendulum swings. We endure and light another candle. May all be well, may all be calm, may all find peace.
As I go to bed quite late or into the wee hours of the morning, I received a text message from CNN about the shooting when it was breaking news. I turned to television on to complete horror, with the death count being around twenty while I was watching. I was finally able to go to sleep, and when I turned the news on this morning, I was faced with a death toll of 50 plus and over 500 injured. This is beyond mind boggling. This is soul searing. I pray for all the victims' families, all the injured peoples' families, the first responders, the nurses and doctors, the police, and anyone involved in this nightmare. It seems there are so many prayers needed for so many tragedies and disasters, and it is comforting to know that God can handle them all.
I have been checking in on the news all day, and it has just been horrific. So when I got home, I really needed an antidote to all the anger and stupidity of the world. I read the first chapter of Jenn's "Barking Up The Wrong Tree." Not only is it a textbook example of how to write romantic comedy, it made me laugh on this grimmest of grim days. Thank you, Jenn.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all the victims, their families, the first responders, and all those touched by this horrific tragedy.

ReplyDeleteWhat we seem to have more than enough of is angry old white men with guns. I am (insert bad word here) horrified. And ready to move to Canada.
