JENN McKINLAY: Hi, it's me with the Friday funnies again. I've curated my latest belly laughs from social media and life because dang it 2024 has been off to a rocky start for some of us, so let's take a beat and have a laugh.
So, this video is mine. I posted it to my Instagram story this week and it was wildly popular so I'll share with you with the back story:
I walk my dogs every day on different paths through the neighborhood to keep it interesting--for everyone involved. Well, on this one particular street, this pooch feels compelled to greet us when we walk by. These block fences are six feet tall and no, there is no trampoline.
The first time it scared the snot out of me, but now I greet him/her (IDK) by singing Adele's lyrics, "Hello...it's me." I laugh every time this dog pops up even though I expect it now.
Here is a new discovery for me. This Instagrammer is hiiiiilarious. She anthropomorphs everything from fonts to human inventions and she is sooooo clever. I have rewatched some of these short videos several times just to appreciate all the nuances. Seriously, if you're on Insta, check out Elle Cordova. Here's a link to one of my faves since I can't just post it as I'm respecting copyright: Inventions Hanging Out
And then, of course, there are the good old reliable memes. Here are a few of my recent punny faves!
Happy Friday (we made it!), everyone. What are some things you've seen lately that made you laugh? Drop a link in the comments to share!
Thanks for the chuckles, Jenn . . . these are clever and cute.
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday, Joan!
DeleteThose were fun nd cute, Jenn. Here's one I found yesterday for National Pet Walkers Day. https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/12421735/d14.0.gif
ReplyDeleteLOL _ that is adorbs. I swear I spend more time watching animal videos than anything else on social media.
DeleteDo you get The Dodo popping up on your Facebook feed, Jenn? (Or just go to www.thedodo.com) Time will fly by if I start watching their videos! — Pat S
DeleteVery glad for the laughs and for the introduction to Elle Cordova--I'll check out more of her humor. Best of all is the jumping German shepherd. I just wish someone would greet me that enthusiastically and energetically when I walk around MY neighborhood!
ReplyDeleteShe really is something. And my bouncing buddy cracks me up!
DeleteThe shepherd is very funny! I've been seeing a lot of Calvin and Hobbes cartoons in my FB feed lately, probably because I forget I don't know the poster and click Like, which only encourages the algorithm to show me more. Anyway, they give me a giggle, and at least I'm not buying horribly made clothes from China...
ReplyDeleteThere is a site called GoComics where you can see many different comic strips, old and new. You can choose some favorites and then see them every day. Calvin & Hobbes seem as fresh and new today as back then.
DeleteCalvin and Hobbes is a longtime favorite - pure genius!
DeleteThose were funny especially the jumping Shepherd. Hope your weekend is a good one.
ReplyDeleteYou, too, Dru! Happy weekend!
DeleteThanks for the laughs, Jenn. So good. I first met Elle Cordova discussing "Fonts hanging out" -- so funny! Here it is https://www.instagram.com/p/C3Syk4brSFL/ Also that one 'scrolling for my birthyear' is funny not funny...
ReplyDeleteMy friend Paige Shelton wrote a mystery called TO HELVETICA AND BACK - needless to say she was the first person I shared that with :)
DeleteElle Cordova is really clever and funny.
DeleteThat dog would scare the wee out of me, too, Jenn! Poor thing looks lonely.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to laugh just Google "cats and cucumbers". No idea why the two don't mix, but trust me on the results. And of course, the jillion reels of funny babies on Facebook Reels, and I guess Insta, too. Two old Carol Burnett skits are guaranteed mood lifters: The one with her decked out as Scarlet O'Hara, and the outtakes of Tim Conway telling a story to Mama and the family about the elephants. The very end is comedy gold.
I immediately saw Carol as Scarlet with the curtain rod across her shoulders. LOL! I think my favorite sketch comedies are the ones where they all crack up. Truly, I don't know how they did some of these without breaking character.
DeleteThey didn't. Conway tried his hardest to crack them all, and the fun part was watching him succeed.
DeleteI love the German Shepherd jumping. My first German Shepherd was a cross breed, and he was huge with long legs and very protective. I took him to obedience training because he couldn't be the one making decisions. Occasionally fierce. Then we went through off leash training. Finally, we did the police course with all types of obstacles, crawl through, climb up, jump over! That bouncing dog reminds me of my soaring pooch.
ReplyDeleteI've been seeing a lot of Far Side and Pickles cartoons.
My dad said his GS was the best dog. They are a bundle of energy, for sure.
DeleteThanks for the giggles. Great way to start the day! I like the Pickles comic by Brian Crane.
ReplyDeleteI have to find the Pickles cartoon! I haven't seen them. Clearly, an oversight on my part.
Deleteyes the Pickles cartoons are a hoot!
DeleteJenn, I don’t think they’re an oversight on YOUR part. I think the algorithm hasn’t caught up to you or you “like” other things. I’ve only recently been getting Calvin and Hobbes, Pickles and The Far Side, but I definitely clicked on something. Not that I’m complaining; beats a lot of stuff I get that I don’t want to see! — Pat S
DeleteJENN: Thanks for the laughs. Love these Super Bowl puns. Friday Funnies are a great start to the day. Difficult week so far and hope today is a new day with a fresh start.
ReplyDeleteDiana
Same. This week was a bit of a butt kicker. Here's to the weekend!
DeleteI will admit to watching the dog too many times and laughing each time.
ReplyDeleteHa! I had it synced to Adele's HELLO but then realized it was likely a violation of copyright but still very funny.
DeleteThere is a reason that wall is 6 feet tall!!!
ReplyDeleteRight? LOL.
DeleteNo kidding. And it looks like they've added blocks to the original height...
Delete"The first time it scared the snot out of me"....haha! You just made my day...
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear it. Have an excellent weekend!
Delete"Private Sign: Do not read"
ReplyDeleteLOL. Okay. I want that!
DeleteThat is one bouncy dog. And I've seen Elle's videos - too funny.
ReplyDeleteI follow an account on Instagram called "deputy_dog_radar." He is an apprehension dog, his handler's last name is O'Reilly - Radar O'Reilly, get it? Anyway, people send O'Reilly snacks from all over the world and he films himself letting Radar try them. The dog eats everything. Radar is in the back of the truck - sometimes he gets so excited he puts a leg through the opening and you can tell O'Reilly is giving him a command to get back. Which Radar does, albeit a little reluctantly. Oh, O'Reilly also tries whatever the snack is, even if it is clearly meant for canines.
Have a great weekend!
Oh, I have to follow them - my kind of social media! Thanks, Liz!
DeleteWill definitely check this one out. Rick will love it.
DeleteWe need a laugh and a ray of sunshine in this family right now, so we take one when we can. As I have moaned about, we have had weather – snow to the roof, and then more snow the next week just to top it back up to the roof again. Tomorrow we are to get buckets, and buckets of rain to fall on the snow, melt it, clog drains if you have any and flood and then flash freeze a la ice storm.
ReplyDeleteAdd to that my sister has been diagnosed with leukemia (Jan 29), which is suspiciously worse than we all thought. As of last night, she is in Halifax as an inpatient where she gets chemo into her spinal column twice a day, for 2 weeks, home for a week, repeat. Things could change (Since I started this note, things have changed again and she is now about to get a transfusion before the next chemo) and most likely will change again today. It is like walking on constantly changing quicksand.
BUT: there are funnies to be found. The first day in the storm we were transported by a neighbour in a Kabota down the driveway to the road to meet another neighbour to go to hospital. Have video- hilarious.
Then a day or two afterwards, Herself and I were out, but Jack saw a helicopter flying about, and then it paused across the lake, and dropped one of those sled-type things that lifts up bodies. He said I should call the people who had the Kabota, and see if they were all right, and not air-lifted somewhere. I listened to gossip and heard nothing, so it was not until last Saturday when I saw Bob at the Tea, and asked him if he was dead. He laughed when I told him about Jack seeing the helicopter. Nope, not dead. He rolled his eyes, and said the neighbours had a drop of dog food. They ran out during the storm! (Not as though we weren’t warned about the snow and they should have gone shopping…)
Good use of our emergency resources!
Now what else will happen today? She is expecting a new fridge, and I am quite sure it cannot maneuver the snow drifts to get up her driveway to the kitchen. Only way out is to back up – glad it is not me!
Thanks for the laughs...
Keeping your sister in my heart, Margo. I hope everything goes her way. And OMG on the snow. I can't even...
DeleteMargo, hugs from northern Ohio--humor comes in small welcome doses, doesn't it? We have a little weak sunshine at the moment, I'd send some of that your way if I could.
DeleteDear Margo, sending healing vibes to your family. It’s not easy to watch a loved one go through this!
DeleteSo sorry, Margo. Sending good thoughts for your sister.
DeleteThe dog is hilarious! After reading Heather Cox Richardson's piece this morning on the Alabama IVF decision and reading some of the comments, I had to go watch Every Sperm is Sacred by Monty Python. Still hilarious and biting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUspLVStPbk. For less loaded content, here are a couple of jokes the kids at my church told for our Souper Bowl of Caring Sunday:
ReplyDeleteWhat font does alphabet soup use? Times New Ramen
What did the bowl of soup write to their valentine? I love you Pho real.
Yeah, that Alabama decision does indicate that the AI everyone is worried about taking over the world is actually smarter than most of our politicians. Ahem. LOVE Monty Python! And those jokes by the kids are hiiiilarious. Thanks for sharing!
DeleteThanks for the laughs, Jenn and all! Much appreciated this morning. My favorite joke is from then 4-year-old nephew: What does a squirrel say when it sneezes? Ca-shew, ca-shew!
ReplyDeleteThat's cute - I'll try that joke on my 10 and 12 year old grandkiddos!
DeleteLOL - kids are the best!
DeleteLove to laugh! Always. Recently I saw on X a post about a post from a certain member of congress who had said about a certain judge, 'he should be disrobed!" The funny thing was she wasn't trying to make a joke - she was serious. As in seriously misguided.
ReplyDeleteOr seriously dim!
DeleteLOL - if I didn't laugh every day I wouldn't get up.
DeleteThanks for the smiles this morning. Every so often a Snoopy or Peanuts strip will show up in my Facebook feed. They are always good for a smile.
ReplyDeleteLove them!
Deletethank you!!!! SO FUNNY! And now back into airplane mode
ReplyDeleteSafe travels, Hank!
DeleteLove them all, but the bounding dog - priceless
ReplyDeleteI am very fond of it - we do walk that street more often than we used to :)
DeleteJenn, the bouncing dog made me burst out in laughter. Not just the huge bounce, but the sheer happiness on his doggie face. Speaking of which, since we can't add graphics to the comments (c'mon, Blogger, it's the 2020s!) I'll describe one of my fave four panel comics - you can easily find this with a search.
ReplyDelete1st Panel: Owner asks dog, "Whose a good boy?"
2nd Panel: Dog ponders, face screwed up in thought. /Who among us can really be considered good? How do we define it? How can we recognize it?/
3rd Panel: Owner, "You are! You're a good boy!"
4th Panel: Dog's mouth is open in utter delight and astonishment. /I AM?!? This is AMAZING!!!/
Love it. LOL
DeleteLOL - totally my foster dog, Ellie!
DeleteIt’s the time of year to watch the bald eagles’ nest on the Friends of Big Bear Valley Cam. In addition to the live cam, there are also clips from when there is activity, such as a parental shift change or visits from other animals. This one made me laugh!
ReplyDeletehttps://youtu.be/vqI7_ZPEux8
I love following Jackie and Shadow. Last year their chick hatched on my birthday. I hope all three eggs make it!
DeleteThat’s very cool! And this year we may get a leap day hatchling!
DeleteThis is now the default TV setting.
OMG- I love livestreams of bird nests. Exciting!
DeleteLove the German shepherd, Jenn! He's so lonely!! Always nice to know you're making someone's day. Am now following Elle! Love the Super Bowl puns!
ReplyDeleteI figured you'd appreciate the shepherd, Debs!
DeleteHopefully, this link will work to a cartoon I shared around my socials yesterday.

I'm going to check it out! Thanks, Mark!
DeleteThankfully I have not had a trying week, but I always appreciate humor. We, too, have a neighborhood bouncing dog who has to let you know that he sees you walking a dog by his yard. (How dare you?!). I also loved the Carol Burnett Show in general, but even more when Tim Conway was on. Any sketch with Harvey Korman was guaranteed to produce belly laughs!
ReplyDeleteI am sending healing thoughts to your sister, Margo, as well as hope for better weather. For the rest of you, I hope you have a wonderful weekend filled with laughter. — Pat S
Thank you, Pat. Same to you!
DeleteHow about this one: "ALWAYS DRIVE WITH CAKE" "WINTER CONDITONS ...DRIVE WITH CAKE" I wanted to post the actual sign, but could not get it to cut and paste here!
ReplyDeleteLOL! I love it.
DeleteWhy are you up so late, Hank, you might ask? I just spent 10,000 hours watching Elle Cordova videos. Amazing amazing. Amazing in every way! Thank you, Jenn! I had to absolutely stop myself from watching more. How is anyone that clever?
ReplyDeleteThanks-needed this!
