FRIDAY FUN: Word Search!

JENN McKINLAY: Happy Friday, Reds and Readers! Because I have spent the week either cleaning something or cooking something, I thought it would be fun to have a silly game for today! I'm hoping this game board is viewable on your phone and tablets (I made it on my laptop). Tomorrow I will posting the answer key :)

For future reference, Reds and Readers, what's your word game of choice? Crossword? Wordle? Scrabble? Other? Let me know in the comments and I'll see what I can come up with on another Friday Fun Day! Good luck!

    1. I love a good crossword. I have a friend who picked her partner because she saw him doing the crossword in ink.

  3. Oh how fun! I will do this later when I have more time. I love puzzles of all kinds…crosswords, Sudoku, cryptoquote, Jumble, word search, Wordle…
Right now I am reading Inside the Box: Adventures with Crosswords and the Puzzling People Who Can’t Live Without Them by Adrienne Raphel. It’s all about the history of crossword puzzles, how to make them, who makes them etc. Very interesting if you like Crosswords.

  4. I love all kinds of word puzzles. I play a daily word search game & NYTimes Spelling Bee before reading the JRW blog.

  5. Well dang. It looks challenging and fun. But the first step is figuring out how to get this to work on my pc. I am stuck on Step one.

    1. I clicked on the word search graphic and saved it as an image on my PC desktop. I then used the edit picture mode (pencil) to cross out the words.

    2. Grace, you have the most generous heart to share that method. ❤️

    3. Thanks for the tip, Grace. My inclination would have been to print it out and our printer is in storage.

  6. I think that I love puzzles but I avoid them like old bad boyfriends. Obviously, it's a love-hate situation. The one I truly was addicted to was Sudoku. There, I feel like I just left an AA meeting.
    XXOO to my puzzle-loving friends.

  7. I do love puzzles: I used to do crosswords, then I got into Sudoku, but don't like doing it on line so much (I used to love the Sunday monster Sudoku,--sometimes the most difficult ones took me weeks of erasing and plodding through--but it went away, sigh). Now I do Keyword in the WaPo, and Connections and Strands in the NYT. A note: the NYT borrowed the idea for Connections from the BBC quiz show, Only Connect, which I love! When Matt and I watch OC, we pause the video at the connecting wall segment and try to figure it out.

  9. Impossible for me to do that on my tablet, I’ll have to print it.
Questions: How did you get that ? Did you make it ?

    I play Scrabble everyday .
I also have a book called « Cerveaux Actifs » that can be translated: Active Brains. It contains many different exercises with words and of many others kinds which challenge several cognitive skills.

    1. I found a word search generator and after a few back and forths, it created this and sent me the answer key. Here's the link: https://tinyurl.com/53ve6xxc

  11. I love puzzles. I play Wordle, NYT Mini Crossword, Connections, Jumble. I used to play Sudoku but grew tired of it. I love Scrabble but have no one in family interested in playing it. Oh and I love to play Go Fish with my granddaughter (11 years) but she's outgrown it as she's gotten older.

  12. Karen is there a reason you can share why you are boycotting the NYT puzzle section? Thanks.

  13. I ama fan of puzzles as well. The only one that I have never been able to enjoy is Soduko. I'm a fan of crosswords, but have fallen away from doing them regularly. (Probably about the time my husband stopped doing them on paper but moved to an app -- we used to tag-team on the paper ones.) These days, I do Wordle, Connections and Strands daily, and often do Quordle and Octordle in the evening.

While I appreciate Grace's suggestion for doing your puzzle on a device, I think I'm going to just print it and do it that way. It looks like it will be fun!

  14. My mom was the big word search fan! This one was fun. I enjoy several free games from NYT--I won't pay to do any of them--Wordle, Connections, Strands, and SpellBee. I like Boggle and Scrabble, hmmm, grandnephew is spending the night--we'll see if he's up for a game of Boggle!

  16. I love word games! Jumble, crytoquote, crossword puzzles, word search, most anything that unscrambles letters. I find those to be great fun. Sudoku and I have a love/hate relationship. Thanks to Grace for the suggestion on completing the word search and many thanks to Jenn for taking time to create it! -- Victoria

  20. Thanks, Jenn! You obviously know your audience! I do the NYT Mini Crossword, Connections and Strands every day. And for those who like Sudoku, I bought a big Sudoku board that has regular and mini (for your guesses) number tiles. I set it on a card table when I feel like playing it. — Pat S

  21. This is the perfect day for word games. Well, actually, every day is a good day for word games. I do the NY Times puzzle every day plus the Spelling Bee and Wordle. I try to do them all in under an hour, but it doesn't always work (Saturday!). Thanks for some fun the "day after."
